WAC Names Vandenbroeck As Head Coach

Belgian Sven Vandenbroeck has been appointed coach of Wydad Casablanca (WAC), Moroccan champion and winner of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League, replacing Spaniard Juan Carlos Garrido who resigned on Friday.

I’m proud to be here, to wear a WAC shirt“said Vandenbroeck in a video posted on the facebook page of the Casablanca club.

For the end of the season, we need everyone to support us. Be there every game, follow us, support us and we will do what is necessary“Added the former coach of AS FAR Rabat (2021-2022), wearing a jersey in the colors of Wydad.

The 43-year-old former Belgian defender, who has coached several juggernauts in Africa (clubs and countries), replaces Garrido, in office since the end of February and criticized by club supporters for his tactical approach and results deemed insufficient.

Six days before the end of the championship, Wydad is in second place in the standings, one point behind AS FAR.

Besides AS FAR, Sven has been head coach of Tanzanian giants Simba SC and was part of Cameroons technical staff when they won the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations under current Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Henry Broos.
