Wadie Jary: Former Tunisia FA boss behind bars

A court in Tunis on Thursday sentenced the former head of the Tunisian Football Federation (FTF), Wadie Jary, to four years in prison on corruption charges, his lawyer told AFP.

His lawyer Kamel Ben Khelil has however said his team will appeal the verdict.

Jary, who has been in custody since October 2023, was convicted over an “unlawful contract between the FTF and a technical director”, a spokesperson for the sports ministry aired on Thursday.

Jary was first elected as head of the FTF in 2012, but he has faced in recent years multiple allegations including match-fixing, financial misconduct, and money laundering, which he denied.

Local media also reported on disputes between Jary and the sports ministry regarding decisions he had made while presiding over the national federation
