Wadie Jary: Tunisian FA president detained for charges of corruption
The president of the Tunisian Football Federation (Ftf), Wadie Jary, was arrested yesterday night for “alleged financial corruption”. It was first reported by sports website “Webdo”, and later confirmed by sportglitz.com.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Chokri Hamda, told the radio station “Imf” that the ministry has denounced Jary for stipulating a contract with the former technical director of the Federation, Sghaier Zouita, who did not would comply with the administrative procedure and current legislation.
In particular, according to the spokesperson, the technical director “must be appointed by decree and not by contract”. Therefore, the “Federation did not comply with Tunisian law” and the president of the Football Federation was placed in precautionary custody awaiting to appear today before the facilities judge.
According to the spokesperson of the Ministry of Sports, this situation will have no impact on the situation of the Federation, nor will it influence the decisions of FIFA and international football institutions. The members of the executive committee of the FTF will now have to elect one of their number to fill the position of provisional or permanent president of the Federation.
According to sportglitz sources, Jary was interrogated in El Gorjani on August 30 and was then released. The president of the FTF was heard by the agents of the financial and economic investigations directorate of El Gorjani’s judicial team regarding the contracts signed by the Tunisian Football Federation, in relation to the administrative and financial management of the FTF.
