WC Q Playoffs: Rigobert Song Preselects Conceiçao’s Team To Face Algeria

Newly appointed Lions’ coach Rigobert Song has opted for a 38 man pre selected team to rumble against Algeria later this March 25 and 29 in view of the WC qualifying playoffs

Astonishingly, of all the players called up, 35 are players who were actively used by Antonio Conceiçao, during his term as the Lions gaffer.

Jeando Fuchs, Gael Ondoa and Olivier Ntcham are the new players making their entrance into the list.

Big news between the sticks as goalkeeper Fabrice Ondoa makes his way back, while Efala of Akwa United makes way.

Inter bound Onana, Simon Omossola and Davis Epassy keep their places.

Sacha Boey joins in on the battle on the right back position currently run by Fai Collins, with Olivier Mbaizo as back up.

The left backs at the AFCON; Ebosse, Oyongo and Tolo keep their places for the meantime, same with the centre-backs: Castelleto, Ngadeu, Moukoudi and Jerome Onguene. Castelleto has been on fine form since returning to Nantes, where he has extended his contract. The most sane pair in the heart of the defense will be Castelleto and Ngadeu Michael. Jean Claude Bilong and Tchamba Duplexe are the two additions.

In the middle of the park, Jeando Fuchs and Gael Ondoa join in the battle for places amid familiar foes. Zambo Anguissa, Kunde Malong, Hongla Martin, Lea Siliki amongst others, will have to contend with old guard Arnaud Djoum, who slightly missed out of the AFCON.

The game is of utmost importance as the Lions wouldn’t want to miss out on the world cup for a second time running. Cameroon initially made it out of a difficult group D, topping a group that had Cote D’Ivoire, Mozambique and Malawi, to make the playoffs.

Algeria themselves are looking to get the record straight after crashing out at the 2021 AFCON in such a shameful manner, losing against Equatorial Guinea and Cote D’Ivoire, with a parity obtained against Sierra Leone in group E.
