WCQ: In – Form Bayern Striker Choupo Moting Scores Brace, As Lions Keep Track Of Cote D’Ivoire
Three headers, three goals – equalled three points for team Cameroon in search of their 8th participation in the World Cup finals.
Leading the course for the Indomitable Lions this evening was Bayern Munich striker – Choupo- Moting, who scored a brace, scoring one in each half.
The striker is currently in superlative form, having scored 7 goals in 8 appearances for Bayern this season.
It was an admirable response from Cameroon after Cote D’Ivoire earlier won their game against Malawi, to keep their position as group leaders in group D with 7 points, one ahead of Cameroon.
In the opening minutes,
Cameroon skipper Vincent Aboubakar looked unsettled and uncharacteristically lost two passes in double quick time in the opening 6 minutes. It looked a perfectly mapped plan from coach Luis Goncalves and his men who absorbed pressure and looked to pounce with counters.
It was likely that anything good on the part of the Mambas was going to come through their little magician Luis Miquisone and his darting runs down the middle.
With how well Mozambique set – out, it had to take a personal or an unforced error to break their defense. It was nearly the case at the 14th minute when Pachoio Lau Ha King and teammates didn’t clear their line and Choupo Moting’s attempted lob went inches away.
23 minutes in, and down the right flank for Cameroon looked incapacitated. Olivier Mbaizo’s deliveries in the area was not slick and cost the indomitable Lions a couple of chances.
It all changed in the twinkle of an eye. It took a quick throw – in from Mbaizo down the right that found Martin Hongla who went for the far – post, and in – form Bayern striker, Choupo Moting, was on hand to nod in at the 27th minute.
Anguissa’s lose touch at the 34th minute led to a Mozambique counter that was was dragged wide by Dayo Antonio.
Mozambique had a rear chance to pull the game level at the 50th minute through Dayo Antonio but his inability to remain calm cost the team at the other end as Choupo Moting completed his brace from a Moumi Ngamaleu corner.
Young Boys forward – Moumi Ngamaleu was rocking the Mozambican defense and at the 62nd minute, from yet another corner worked down the left, the winger placed the ball on the head of Toko Ekambi for the Lions’ third.
The Lions were close to getting a fourth at the 74th minute as two second half substitutes; Fai Collins combined with Bahoken, but the latter’s side – footed attempt went over Ernan Alberto Siluane’s bar.
With 80 minutes in, lack of communication in the Lions’ defense meant Geny Catamo pulled one back for Mozambique.
In search for a comeback, It all turned from bad to worse for Mozambique as they were reduced to 10 men after Danilo Muze was shown red for having left his stood on Fai Collins.
The reversed fixture will be played in Morocco on Oct. 8.
