WCQ: Jerome Onguene, Christian Bassogog Make Final Lions’ List

Indomitable Lions gaffer – Antonio Conceiçao has this November 2nd made public a list of 27 players selected for the preparation camp in view of the games against Malawi and Côte d’Ivoire, for match day 5 the 6 group D games – of the Qatar World Cup qualifiers.

Conceiçao has vested full confidence on Jerome Onguene, and kept Christian Bassogog within the Lions’ rank.

Bassogog, 25, has been hyper active, training in France since the Chinese Super League was suspended from August till December, to gift the country leverage in the ongoing World Cup qualifiers, that has so far turned out to be dismal.

Jerome Onguene is omnipresent for Salzburg these days; both in the league and Champions League. The 23 – year – old is a like – for like swoop with injured Harold Moukoudi.

5 players were finally sidelined from the initial 32 called up.

The players who have been dropped are: Narcisse Junior Nlend, Samuel Kotto, Yvan Neyou, Lambert Gueme Araina and Paul-Georges Ntep.

Paul George Ntep is yet to fully recover from an injury sustained some weeks back, same with Yvan Neyou who was stretched out during the weekend at the 5th minute, in Saint Etienne’s game against Metz.

Lambert Araina scored for FAR Rabat against JS Kabylie in the CAF Confederation Cup preliminaries, but it didn’t stop his team from being booted out of CAF’s secondary, club competition. Araina, 22, has been left out of the high profile games, surely with the coach aware that pressure might get to him.

Youngster Junior Kotto has not equally been competitive since the Elite One came to a close. The Apejes Academy defender has been dropped as well.

The Indomitable Lions will enter camp in the days ahead. The games are scheduled for the 13th and 16th of this month.
