‘We want to qualify for The WC,’ Mbaizo Sets Record Straight After Cote D’Ivoire Set – Back

Cameroon’s right full – back and Philadelphia Union defender Olivier Mbaizo, has aired the aspirations of team Cameroon, to make a record extending 8th appearances in the World Cup finals in Qatar.

The former USD defender who has been around the Lions den for over two years was speaking to on the mic of sportsglitz at the Japoma Annex stadium, during the team’s work – out session this evening at 5 pm.

The 24 year old defender started by acknowledging the team encountered a huge set – back after losing to Cote D’Ivoire on match day two of the qualifiers in group D

‘It was difficult losing points against Cote D’Ivoire. We want to bounce back and qualify for the World Cup. We will do our best to get 6 points against Mozambique so as to better our chances,’ Mbaizo stated.

The latter then opined he is on a personal high, getting into the dual confrontation against Mozambique.

‘Personally, I am feeling great! I came earlier to camp due to personal reasons. Physically I am in great shape.’

Quizzed on how he has managed to adapt to his new role, given he was used as a center – half during his boyhood and amateur days, Mbaizo had the following to say;

‘I am a versatile player. In Union Sportif, I played mostly as a center – half. When I went to the US, my team tweaked and started using me as a right back. Since then, I became comfortable playing in that position.’

Mbaizo, who has so far had a near – perfect season with the Philadelphia Union, assisting the team to third position in the MLS Eastern conference, believes himself and other teammates have an idea of the threat Mozambique will pose.

‘I can say we know 75 percent of Mozambique. The last time we met was on the occasion of an AFCON qualifiers. They have talented players. We know what they bring and we will put in our best to win,’ Olivier Mbaizo ended.

The last time Cameroon played against Mozambique was late last year, with the Lions picking up successive victories that summed up to an aggregate win of 6 – 2.

Mbaizo played a joint 180 minutes in the two games. He will be hoping coach Antonio Conceiçao opts for a similar formula on Oct. 8, given he missed out on the Lions last game against Cote D’Ivoire, due to the gaffer’s tactical plans.
