Women’s UCL: We Will Do Better – Mbengono, Manga And Nguiadem After Arsenal Defeat
Last season’s Women’s Champions League quarter finalists – Arsenal trounced Kazakhstani side Okzhetpes 4-0 in their Champions League opener at the Sapsan Arena.
Three Cameroon born ladies were part of the tie for Okzhetpes; Catherine Mbengono, Ngah Manga and Nguiadem.
The aforementioned three left the Guinness Super League of the Cameroon premier division, where they all recorded impressive figures for Amazones FAP and AWA FF respectively.
Winger Catherine Mbengono started the game but was the only substitute of the three ladies, as she made way for Arailym Orynbassarova in the second half added on time.
Ngah Manga and Nguiadem played through the 90 minutes, but were overwhelmed by an enterprising Arsenal side who are one time winners of the Women’s Champions league, back in 2006/2007.
Arsenal hit the ground running through 28-year-old Japanese forward Mana Iwabuchi at the 14th minute, and Kim Little extended the Gunners’ lead only two minutes later.
Pacy England Lionesses forward Nikita Parris scored the fourth goal with 15 minutes to go, after Beth Mead had made it 3-0, five minutes after the hour mark in the second segment.
“We played as a unit and defended more as per the advise of our coach, due to the stature of Arsenal, defender,” Nguiadem told Sportsglitz.net
Indomitable Lionesses winger Catherine Mbengono added: “it wasn’t really easy, because the team demanded a lot from me, going forward and helping out in defense.”
“I was alone against four defenders, so it wasn’t easy getting past them all, but its quite an experience,” Ngah Manga told sportsglitz.net – post match.
Okzhetpes play their next game in the competition on Saturday August 21, and they’ve promised fans back home to do better in subsequent games.
Okzhetpes are currently 3rd in the Kazakhstan Women’s Football Championship, with 34 points after 16 matches played. Only BIIK-Kazygurt and Tomoris – Turan have done better in that time.
