YOSA Ends Eding’s 7 Year Stay In Elite One
Yong Sports Academy of Bamenda have emerged winners of the Elite One playdown game against 2017 Elite One winners, Eding Sports of the Lekie.
The game was played at lunchtime at the Bonamoussadi stadium, and it was second half substitute, Eric Embe, and Ako Calistus scored both goals in the second half to send Eding to the country’s second-tier.
How it happened
The game started on a slow pedal with both sides observant. The physicality of the match led to a first yellow at the 7th minute, Chi Zanga the recipient after a foul on Rodulf Kukisang.
One minute before the half hour mark, Eding sport had a first real chance courtesy a mix-up between Che Denis and Aminu iliasu, but Harrison Djonkep’s shot was batted away by Bessong Chrysantus.
5 minutes before the pose, Eding was treated to yet another card. This time, it was Maxime Pascal Eze after a foul on Acha Aristide.
YOSA got half a chance at the 43rd minute when Acha Lovis’ clearance nearly turned into a decisive pass for Rudolf Kukisang, whose volley was fumbled before handled by Bienvenu James.
In the start of the second half, Bonaventure Djonkep made a first substitution, as Chi Zanga made way for Prosper Onana.
Eding Sports made another substitution bringing on Nebankia Peter Paul for Leon Dilane at the 56th minute.
In response to Eding Sports’ substitutions, coach Ndikum Blaise brought on Eric Embe and Ako Calistus for Rudolf and Hebert at the 61st minute.
Yong Sports Academy of Bamenda eventually broke the deadlock at the 73rd minute via second half substitute, Frank Eric Embe, from a perfectly worked set piece, recycled by Njibero Durell, and expertly finished by Embe.
Three minutes after, Harrison Djonkep struck the upright after a superb solo run, as the status of the game rapidly switched.
With Eding pushing for an equaliser, YOSA’s Ako Calistus struck the ball immaculately from out of the area and the deflected attempt beat Bienvenu James in borrowed time (90+2).
YOSA thus conserves its 14 year Elite One status, while Eding had been condemned to the Elite Two for the first time in 7 years.
