Youssouf Sabaly calls time on Teranga Lions’ career
At 31, Youssouf Sabaly has decided to end his international career with the Senegalese national team.
Often hampered by injuries, the right-back would like to devote himself entirely to his club.
Youssouf Sabaly’s last match with the Senegalese national team was a defeat at Stade Abdoulaye-Wade against Algeria, on September 12, 2023.
According to different sources, the 31-year-old right-back decided to turn the page on his international career.
The revelation came only a few hours before the publication of Aliou Cissé’s list for the March gathering friendly matches against Gabon (March 22) and Benin (March 26), in Amiens.
The Betis man had a discussion with Aliou Cisse before his decision.
Having arrived the national team in November 2017, Sabaly, generally used as a left-back, quickly established himself and became essential with the Teranga Lions. However, his career with Senegal, was marked by numerous injuries.
Present during the last two World Cups (2018, 2022), the former Bordeaux player also played in the 2019 AFCON.
However, his absence at AFCON 2021, won by Senegal, remains one of the big disappointments of his career. He gathered 32 caps for country
