Zamalek begins CAF Confed. Cup defense with academic victory over Black Bulls

Zamalek started their group stage campaign in the Confederation Cup with an easy 2-0 win over Black Bulls of Mozambique at Cairo stadium on Wednesday

Youth midfielder Ahmed Abdel-Rehim opened the scoring just before the break, while defensive midfielder Nabil ‘Dunga’ Emad doubled the seal six minutes into the second half.

The defending champions controlled the game from its start with wingers Ahmed ‘Zizo’ Sayed and Mostafa Shalabi squandered two easy chances in the first five minutes.

They could be punished for their lack of concentration with Black Bulls’ Nigerian forward Hammed was close on scoring but Zamalek keeper Mohamed Awad denied his well-placed effort in the 9 th minute.

Abdel-Rehim who made his first start with the team this season was on the rebound for a poor clearance from Black Bulls defense to fire home in the 45 th minute.

International midfielder Nabil ‘Dunga’ Emad added the second with a rocketing shot from outside the area in the 51 st minute.

The two goals rendered Zamalek mission easier as they tried to score the thirst but it was in vain.

Tunisian defender was stretchered off after sustaining a serious injury with ten minutes remaining.

This win allowed Zamalek join fellow country club Masry on the top of the Group with three points each.

Zamalek will visit Enyimba in Nigeria in the next game on Sunday 7 December, while Masry who defeated the Nigerian side 2-0 earlier on Wednesday, will take on Black Bulls away from home on the same day.
