Zimbabwean Goal-Guard George Chigova kicks bucket

SuperSport United goalkeeper George Chigova has died after suffering a heart attack.

According to Tiyani Mabasa’s Uplayable, the 32-year-old Zimbababwean suffered a heart attack in July, but unfortunately did not recover before dying today.

Meanwhile, SuperSport United are yet to make an official statement.

The previous came from coach Gavin Hunt in July: “I have not been briefed on the diagnosis or the whole thing, I’m not a doctor,” said Hunt via iDiskiTimes.

“But I know that there is a problem that we are attending to at this point in time and we will know in the next week or so.

“He’s going to spend four weeks just being inactive and go from there. But it doesn’t look positive, but we will give him all our support we can and stay behind him as best we can,” the SuperSport tactician concluded.

Born in Harare, Chigova began his Aces Youth in 2009. He then moved to Gunners Harare before the dream move to local giants Dynamos in 2012.

Chigova’s major career leap was in 2014 to SuperSport United. He later moved to Polokwane City before returning to Matsatsantsa a Pitori for his second stint in 2020.

His accolades included the 2014/15 league title with SuperSport, as well as eight caps in the national colours of the Zimbabwe Warriors.
