CAF Suspends Tunisian Referee Sadok Selmi
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has taken the decision to sanction referee Sadok Selmi for a period of 3 months without performance for his ‘scandalous’ decisions during the match between Mauritania and the Democratic Republic of Congo on March 28 in Nouakchott.
This information, confirmed by several Tunisian sources, follows the many negative criticisms made of CAF after the said match, which ended in a score of parity (one-all) and a red card dished out on the Congolese striker Cédric Bakambu on game day four of the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations.
The Congolese football federation (FECOFA) had lodged a complaint to CAF against this Tunisian referee (Sadok Selmi), suggesting that the Marabitounes were openly favored on their patch to the detriment of the Leopards. Solely the suspension of the referee will not be enough for the highest body of Congolese football, which also wants to obtain the cancellation of Bakambu’s red card.
For the moment, the DRC are at the tail of group I with 4 points behind Gabon who are on 7 points, Sudan (6 points) and Mauritania 5 points.
The Leopards’ next match is scheduled for Monday, June 12, 2023 against Gabon in Libreville for the 5th day.
