10-Man Fauve Azur defeat Cotonsport

By Ngome Michael

Winless in last two league outings the Faya boys headlined Matchday-3 in a shock 1-0 win over defending champions, Coton Sport of Garoua at the Olembe Annex Stadium.

Paid in their own coin, Daniel Breard will have his tactics meet many questions after his team failed to respond after conceding in the opening quater.

A penalty dispatched by Fauve Azur lone scorer, Juste Koulou in the 12th minute met no reply from the Cotonites even when the hosts got reduced to ten men, seven minutes into the second half.

On the heels of a slim win over Victoria United and dead rubber with Stade Renard the previous matchday, Coton Sport look far from impressive, gifting the ball cheaply in the opponent’s final third.

Captain Goni Ali came close on two occasions towards the closing stages, first from the edge of the box after a set-piece met witj a defensive header and found him but, the skipper fired inches wide.

The second came in from at left flank to which he leaped highest but failed to burry it. Fauve Azur had goalkeeper Biandao to thank for his finger tip save that pushed out the initial effort.

Assana Nah set up another dropped ball into the box, however the resulting header went off target.

With a man down Fauve Azur, as expected defended resolutely and advanced up field with little complexe whenever the opportunity show-up.

First three points for the Faya boys sees Coton seed top spot in Group B and unbeaten status to Stade Renard who edged Victoria United 2-1 in Limbe. The Foxes have lost just two points in the first three league matches.
