Francis Ngannou: “The world’s baddest man” touch town on home soil

Combat sports’ hottest property, Francis Ngannou has arrived homeland Cameroon, after his historic fight against Fury on Nov. 28.

The 37 year old arrived the nation’s economic capital of Douala in the early hours of Wednesday, Nov. 1, for a well deserved rest of 3-4 weeks, sportglitz.com learned.

Ngannou lost controversially through the judges cards against Tyson Fury. In the pair’s boxing match on Saturday night, Fury survived a knockdown by the cameroonian and went on to win.

Fury entered Riyadh with an unbeaten professional record, while Ngannou, the ex-UFC champion was making his boxing debut.

Fury, 35, did not defend his WBC heavyweight title in the fight, which went for all 10 scheduled rounds and saw Ngannou, 37, arguably do enough to beat the boxer.

The Cameroonian dropped the Briton with a left hook in Round 3, stunning those in attendance and the wider combat-sports world. Ngannou continued to outbox Fury for much of the bout, only to be denied a victory when the scorecards were read aloud.

After a close fight, Fury was named a split-decision winner.

The last stint Ngannou had in Cameroon was in June this year, which was for the inauguration of the Francis Ngannou Arena, in collaboration with premierbet, and the Francis Ngannou foundation.

6 bouts were organised on June 27, with some top cameroonian mix martial artists taking on other MMA experts in the continent; Nigeria, Cote D’Ivoire and Congo amongst others.

Mengue Marie, Dasi Emilios, Awa Desmond, Molluh Isaac and Steve Bikim all ran out with handsome wins for team Cameroon on the occasion of the Arena’s inauguration.

Now, the former UFC heavyweight champion will use his time back home to promote the premier project Arena bouts, set to take place in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire on Nov. 25.
