Cameroon are housed in a tricky group C considered the group of death by some football writers, but Essa Pius is upbeat and oozes confidence.

“I know the work the president is putting in. From the way the guys are playing, and the management inclusive, I know that we pull out of the group.

“I am confident in Rigobert Song, and like I said earlier, I trust him and his selections. You might have the best team, but results go against you. But he too is putting in a shift.”

Few have earned the right to assess the senior men’s national team, and Essa Pius is one, having played between early till the mid 90s, winning the All African games in 1991.

The football administrator cum business man had same reply for the 2026 world cup qualifiers, in a group that is shaping to a 3-team horse race between Cameroon, Angola and Libya.

Cameroon will be aiming to get it’s 9th participation at the world cup final in 2026, and in a month’s time, the charges of coach Rigobert Song will be gunning for a 6th AFCON star in Cote D’Ivoire.
