No major surprises in Aliou Cisse’s 27-man squad ahead of AFCON 2023

Aliou Cisse has announced a 27-man squad for Senegal’s AFCON 2023 campaign. Senegal are the defending champions and aim for their second title in Cote D’Ivoire.

The Teranga Lions are a part of Group C and one of the favourites to win the AFCON. Gambia, Guinea and Cameroon are tied along with Senegal in the group.

Some of the biggest names in world football such as: Sadio Mane, Nicolas Jackson, Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly and a few others, remain untouched in the list.

Salernitana forward Boulaye Dia and Everton midfielder Iddrissa Gana Gueye picked up knocks in league games for their clubs over the weekend. Luckily they have made it to the squad and will represent their nation at the top level.

Nampalys Mendy has made it to the squad after recent injury worries. The midfielder injured himself in the Champion League fixture and was a doubt for the tournament. He has made it to the squad and will look to make a difference in the tournament.
