Burkina Faso sweating over the fitness of Dango Ouattara ahead of AFCON

Less than two weeks before AFCON 2023 (January 13-February 11, 2024), all of Burkina Faso is holding its breath for winger Dango Ouattara.

Tottenham-Bournemouth meeting (3-1), counting for the 20th day of the English premier league and for the last match of the year 2023, this Sunday, December 31, definitely did a lot of damage.

In the 32nd minute for Spurs, Senegalese midfielder Pape Matar Sarr (18 caps, 1 goal) was forced to leave the field due to injury, 23 minutes after opening the scoring with a nice strike for the Londoners.

A few minutes later, at half-time, it was the turn of Cherries left winger, Dango Ouattara (14 appearances this season), to be replaced after feeling discomfort. Very bad news for the Burkina Faso team which could lose its right winger (18 caps, 7 goals), who has been satisfying the left-back position at the club for three consecutive matches.

Dango Ouattara is one of the men most used by the Stallions coach in AFCON 2021 and in the 2023 qualifiers. While the entire staff of the Burkina Faso already remain suspended from news on the state of form of the 21-year-old player, his potential withdrawal reduces the field of possibilities on the offensive level, knowing that he can evolve at all the posts of the Burkinabè attack.
