Jean Onana completes Marseille switch from Besiktas

Marseille have completed the signing of Jean Onana (23) from Besiktas. The 23-year-old midfielder has joined Les Olympiens on loan from the Turkish club until the end of the season. The deal includes an option to buy which is not mandatory for the former Lens and Bordeaux man.

After the two respective clubs agreed to the deal, the Cameroonian midfielder traveled to the South of France where he completed his medical before putting pen to paper as a Marseille player.

Marseille had a strong desire to recruit Onana in the January transfer window. With several absentees due to AFCON participation and injuries to key players in midfield like Valentin Rongier, Gattuso sees the midfield as a vulnerable area within his squad.

Les Phocéens had targeted Rennes’ Nemanja Matic (35) and Inter’s Lucien Agoumé (21) before having a changed to set sights on Onana.
