AFCON 2023: Zambia Vs. Tanzania preview

By Ngome Michael

Zambia and Tanzania will draw the curtain in what will be the first meeting between both sides at the African Cup of Nations in San Pedro on January 21, 2024.

Without a win in their opening games, the two Nations resume hoping to bounce back and put their run in the competition on track.

Zambia turned to the back heel and escaped with a point against DR Congo thanks to a Kings Kangwa blazer from 40yards in the first half, later canceled out by Yoane Wissa for the Leopards.

Avram Grant’s men have now failed to win their last three matches, losing 2-1 against Niger in the World Cup qualifiers back in November before playing out two consecutive stalemates.

Tanzania on the contrary were victims of a classic Morocco side too hot to handle in their 3-0 defeat. Goals from Romain Saiss, Azzedine Ounahi and Youssef En-Nesyri left the Taifa Stars still in search of an AFCON first win.

Tanzania has lost six of the seven games played at the tournament conceding atleast three goals in four of the seven matches.

Head coach, Adel Amrouche suspended by both CAF and the Tanzanian FA will see Hemed Morocco take charge against Zambia in a clash previewed to see few goals going by Day-1 performance from both teams.

They both registered the fewest shots in opposition’s box. But however expect to cut lose a little considering match stakes with odds slightly in favor of the Chipolopolo.

Despite not getting the desired results, Zambia will take pride in their resolute display in draw against DR Congo pick out something from an opponent they’re unbeaten against in all competitions.
