Indomitable Lions star, Ateba Joins USMA

Leonel Ateba Mbida has completed a two-and-half year deal to Union Sportive de la Medina (USM Alger), sportglitz.com can confirm.

USMA were in search of a profile to replace erstwhile goal poacher, Aymen Mahious and found glimpses of that in Ateba, thus, accelerating to complete the deal.

According to sportglitz sources, Dynamo FC had different options including YANGA and Al Hilal Omdurman, but stock with USMA.

Dynamo released a statement regarding the player’s move this Wednesday, January 31st, two days after the return of the striker from the AFCON.

“Dynamo Football Club has the pleasure to announce to local and international press that, Cameroon international, Leonel Ateba, 24, has concluded a contract of two years and half, for USM Alger in the Algerian top-flight.

“Dynamo wishes good luck to the player and his new club”, the Elite One side ended.

Leonel Ateba scored 7 goals in 703 minutes played for Dynamo this season.

It has been an upward spiral for the talented center-forward since after he left Cotonsport to PWD Bamenda, in the 2022 campaign.

At PWD, Ateba scored 9 goals in all competitions, helping the Abakwa Boys to a second Cameroon cup final in 3 years.

Ateba previous played for AS Fortuna and made a name for himself before Cotonsport came knocking.

Despite scooping his first league and cup winners medal at Cotonsport in the 2021/2022 season, he forced a move out of Cotonsport due to lack of game time.

Ateba Joins an USMA team fresh from winning the 2023 CAF Confederations cup and the Super Cup with some top talents in their radar.
