TotalEnergies AFCON 2025 preliminary date for draw Known

The preliminary draw for CAF TotalEnergies 2025 AFCON preliminaries is set for Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.

The time is fixed for 1400 local time and 12h00 GMT.

Following the conclusion of the 34th edition of TotalEnergies CAF AFCON, the focus has shifted to the next edition, as the preliminary draw looms.

The 2023 AFCON edition saw so called minnows stun tournament regulars, reason why this stage of the competition is taken seriously.

Prior to AFCON 2021 in Cameroon, the Gambia made it past the preliminaries to the qualifiers proper, and then, made the AFCON group stage, before ascending the last 8 of the competition.

The least ranked teams on the continent will take part in the draw. The likes of: Eritrea, Botswana, Soa Tome and Principe, Djibouti, South Sudan, Sychelles, Somalia, Eswatini, Chad, Mauritius amongst others, begin their journey of many miles from this stage.

These lowest ranked lowest-ranked teams will be drawn into six ties to be played in home-and-away two-legged format. The six winners will advance to the group stage to join 42 other teams in the group stage.
