Former Malawi flames coach Marinică, claims top job in Liberia

Hours to the AFCON 2025 preliminaries draw, Liberia has appointed Mario Marinică as head coach.

Before accepting this new challenge, Marinică was head coach of Malawi. He made history at the 2021 AFCON edition, where he reached the round of 16.

After meeting with the officials of the Liberian Federation, Mario Marinica said he can’t wait to start his tenure with his new team.

The Romanian believes that he can contribute to the development of football in Africa and mentioned that he gets along well with the officials of the Liberia national team, which is now 152 in the FIFA ranking.

“At the moment I have started analyzing Liberian football. Just recently when Malawi played in Liberia, my former team won the match 1-0.

“One of the goalkeepers of the national team plays at Ceahlăul, another player arrived at CFR in the summer. No one has ever asked me about players in Romania, but everyone has their own scouting methods. It’s an amazing opportunity to coach at the national level. It’s also something that will give me a lot of trouble though, but it gives me the satisfaction of being recognized.

” Liberia is 152nd in the FIFA ranking, it does not represent their potential! We have come to the conclusion that we must bring football in Liberia to the level at which it must be noticed”, said Mario Marinică.
