Leonel Ateba assists but USMA records first CAF Confederations cup defeat

USM Alger, holder of the CAF Confederations cup, recorded a narrow defeat (2-1), on Saturday against Libyan side Al Hilal Benghazi, at the Martyrs stadium in Benina.

On game day 5 of the group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup, the USM Alger conceded a first goal in the 14th minute of the game, scored by Amer Muftah (14 ‘).

The Libyans were very stimulated by the opening goal from the start of the match and tried to double the lead before half-time. But, the USMA defense held up well thereafter to end the first part of the very tough first half.

Back from the locker room, USMA were still under pressure from the Libyans who, ultimately, managed to double the lead in the 50th minute of the game, thanks to a goal scored by Al Taeb following a nice pass from his teammate Ahmed Aliaddawi.

And despite these two goals conceded, the USM Alger players really did not give up and, on the other hand, reacted very well with the prospect of reducing the score.

It happened when cameroonian international Leonel Ateba made a brilliant pass to his teammate Chita who managed to reduce the score in the 63rd minute of the game. Subsequently and after the various changes made by the two coaches of the two teams , the score remained the same.

That’s how Al Hilal Benghazi pocketed the three points of the match ahead of USM Alger who recorded their first defeat in this group phase.

In the other match of the group, Supersport United was held to a draw at home by Modern Future (1-1).
