Paris 2024 :Tough draw for Egypt, Mali and Morocco
The African trio of Egypt, Mali and Morocco have landed tough groups in the Paris 2024 Olympics.
After months of waiting, the stage is set for the Olympic Games.
Egypt’s U-23 team has been drawn to face Spain in the group stage of the Paris Olympic Games, based on the draw held in France on Wednesday.
The two teams were placed in Group C, alongside the Dominican Republic and another yet-to-be-confirmed qualifier from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
In the 2020 edition of the Olympics, Egypt and Spain also faced each other in the group stage, where they played to a goalless draw.
Both teams advanced to the next round, with Egypt eventually being eliminated in the quarterfinals. Spain went on to win the silver medal, losing to Brazil in the final.
In the recent draw, the USA was placed in Group A alongside hosts France, New Zealand, and the winner of a playoff between teams from the AFC and the African Football Confederation.
Group B consists of world champions Argentina, Morocco, Ukraine, and another qualifier from the AFC, which is yet to be determined.
Group D features Paraguay, Mali, Israel, and a final qualifier from the AFC.
The football tournament will commence two days before the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, starting on July 24th.
