The President of the National Council for the Safeguarding of the Fatherland, General Abdourahamane Tiani has given his blessing to the Candidate of Niger in the FIFA Council elections, Colonel Djibrilla Hima Hamidou known as Pelé, on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 – during an audience at the Presidency.
He was led by the Minister in charge of sports, Colonel Major Abdourahamane Amadou.
At the end of the audience, Minister Abdourahamane Amadou told the press that they were received by the President in order to formalize the candidacy of the President of the Niger Football Federation (Fenifoot) in the FIFA Council elections scheduled for March 2025, in Cairo, Egypt;
“We have just received the blessing of the Head of State and we ask the Nigerien people to pray for this candidacy,” Abdourahamane said.
Worth recalling that the Confederation of African Football (CAF), with its 54 members, has only six (6) places distributed in regional zones. For West Africa, divided into two zones UFOA A and UFOA B.
Since his arrival at the head of the Niger Football Federation (FENIFOOT) in 2009, Colonel-Major Djibrilla Hima Hamidou known as “Pelé” has established himself as one of the key components in the Nigerien sports movement and particularly in football.
His active involvement in the reorganization of Nigerien football through the professionalization of the championship, the development of football at the grassroots, the construction of sports infrastructure and the organization of international competitions have earned him the institutional recognition of the Nigerien State, CAF and the umbrella body of world football FIFA.
He is therefore an essential link in sports Pan-Africanism, through football, which contributes to the influence of the New Africa.
