indomitable Lions defeat Uganda Cranes 3-0 in June Friendly

The Uganda Cranes were handed a 3-0 defeat by Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions in a high-tempo international friendly staged at the Stade de Marrakech Annexe in Morocco on Friday, 6th June 2025.

Cameroon, ranked 50th in the latest FIFA standings, showcased their class with goals from Flavien Boyomo, Jean Batoum and Patrick Soko. Uganda, positioned 89th, struggled to cope with the pace and physicality of the West African giants throughout the 90 minutes.

Osasuna center-back Flavien Boyomo opened the scoring midway through the first half, rising highest to head in a well-curled free-kick delivered by Mahamadou Nagida of Stade Rennais from the left channel in the 34th minute.

Just two minutes after the restart, Cameroon doubled their advantage. CSKA Sofia right-back James Eto’o whipped in a corner that Jean Batoum met with precision sending a firm header past Uganda’s goalkeeper Nafian Alionzi.

Patrick Soko put the result beyond doubt in the 67th minute. The Huesca forward timed his run perfectly to slot home a slick through ball from veteran striker Vincent Aboubakar, who had been introduced at halftime in place of Adrien Mfoumou.

Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Joseph Put rang in changes to try and inject energy and creativity into his side. Travis Mutyaba came on for Allan Okello at the break while Patrick Jonah Kakande replaced Rogers Mato just moments after Cameroon’s third.

Further substitutions saw Muhammed Shaban, Arafat Usama and goalkeeper Isima Watenga join the action in the latter stages of the match. Despite the tactical reshuffling, the Cranes failed to mount a serious comeback, often pinned in their half by Cameroon’s pressing and quick transitions.

A number of players remained unused on Uganda’s bench, including goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa and outfielders Tony Sibbick, Arnold Odong, Nico Wakiro Wadada, Ivan Ahimbisibwe, Abdu Karim Watambala, and Isaac Muleme.

The fixture served as part of Uganda’s preparations for upcoming competitive engagements. The Cranes will now shift focus to their next international build-up game scheduled for 9th July 2025 against The Gambia, also in Morocco.
