Cameroon’s U20 Lions Fight Back to Reach African Volleyball Championship Semi-Finals

Cameroon’s U20 Lions have stormed into the semi-finals of the African Nations Volleyball Championship after a hard-fought 3–1 victory over Zimbabwe on Thursday.
The match began on shaky ground for the Cameroonians, who dropped the opening set 23–25 as Zimbabwe’s fast serves and aggressive blocks caught them off guard. But the Lions showed resilience and composure, rallying back to take the next three sets 25–20, 25–23, and 25–22 a turnaround that underlined their determination to stay unbeaten in the competition.
The result adds to Cameroon’s flawless campaign, following group-stage victories over Kenya, Rwanda, and Morocco. Their consistency and fighting spirit have now placed them among the leading contenders for the continental title.
Head coach Robert Samou acknowledged his team’s poor start but praised their ability to adapt under pressure.
“We underestimated our opponents, and I think the boys quickly understood that this wasn’t going to be a gift,” Samou said after the match. “Zimbabwe came here to win, and they pushed us hard. That first set was a big reminder that every point matters.”
With a semi-final now looming, Samou insists his side must sharpen their focus if they are to maintain their winning run.
“We need to stay concentrated from start to finish. The boys reacted well today, but we can’t start games this way again. We’ll rest now and prepare better for tomorrow’s match.”
Cameroon’s U20 Lions remain undefeated and just two wins away from lifting the continental trophy a goal that now feels well within their grasp.
