Italy Thrash Costa Rica in U-17 Women’s World Cup Opener

Salé, Morocco — Italy’s U-17 women’s national team began their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup campaign in commanding fashion, securing a comfortable 3-0 victory over Costa Rica in the Group A opener.

The Italian side, making their first appearance at the tournament since their third-place finish in 2014, was led by a brilliant brace from star forward Giulia Galli. Galli broke the deadlock just before halftime, finding the net in the 42nd minute to give Italy a precious 1-0 lead going into the break.

Italy continued their dominance in the second half, doubling their advantage in the 61st minute through Anna Copelli. Copelli’s goal provided a cushion that allowed Italy to play with greater freedom.

Galli then capped off her excellent performance, scoring her second goal of the match in the 72nd minute to seal the 3-0 victory. Her two goals instantly place her among the early top scorers of the tournament.

The result puts Italy in a strong position in Group A, sending a clear message to their competitors. Costa Rica, on the other hand, will need to regroup quickly as they look to bounce back in their next fixture.
