Cameroon Ambassador Galvanizes Support for Lionesses in Morocco
Cameroon’s Ambassador to Morocco, H.E. Mouhamadou Youssifou, successfully galvanized over 1300 Cameroonians to support their national team, the U17 Lionesses, during their recent fixture against the Netherlands at the Mohammed VI Football Academy in Salé.
Cameroon against the Netherlands pulled the second largest crowd (5,500) after the tournament’s opener that saw Morocco take on Brazil.

Answering the fervent call of Ambassador Youssifou, Cameroonian nationals travelled from across the Kingdom, with significant contingents making the journey from Marrakech, Rabat, and Casablanca. Their collective goal was to cheer the Lionesses to victory, transforming the stadium atmosphere into a vibrant sea of green, red, and yellow.
However, despite the immense encouragement from the stands, the Cameroonian side ultimately fell to a 4-3 defeat against the Netherlands.
While the result on the pitch was a loss, the event was a resounding success off it. Courtesy of the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Morocco, Ambassador Youssifou, the gathering fostered a tangible sense of “communion” among the expatriate community. This unity promises to continue to swell as the team prepares for its next challenge.
The Lionesses are set to face North Korea on Tuesday, and the Cameroonian community in Morocco is expected to answer the call once more, demonstrating that their support for the national team transcends the scoreline.
