Gallais Brace and Samoan History Mark Thrilling Group D Opener

France secured a victory in their opening U17 women’s world Cup match against tournament debutants Samoa Republic, but not before the Pacific Islanders made history by scoring their first-ever goals in a FIFA competition.

France started strongly, taking an early lead with a goal from Camille Marmillot in the 2nd minute. Thais Gallais then added a quick brace, scoring in the 19th and 33rd minutes to give France a comfortable lead.

However, Samoa Republic mounted a spirited fightback. Jayde Eldredge scored a historic first goal for Samoa Republic in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in the 37th minute, sending a wave of excitement through the team and their supporters. Samoa further reduced the deficit in the 51st minute through Makea Leonard, putting the French under pressure.

France eventually sealed the win in the final moments of the match, with Elena Moreira Da Rocha scoring in the 90th minute, making the final score 4-2 in favor of France.

Group D Outlook

The match between France and Samoa Republic was the first game of Group D, which also features Canada and Nigeria. Canada and Nigeria are scheduled to play their remaining Group D matches to complete the first round of fixtures.
