Ecuador Clinch Vital Victory at U-17 Women’s World Cup with 2-0 Win Over Norway
Ecuador’s U-17 Women’s National Team secured a crucial 2-0 win against Norway in a hard-fought Group C encounter at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, taking a significant step in their campaign.
The match, played at the Football Academy Mohammed VI in Salé, saw Ecuador grind out the victory thanks to a first-half own goal and a decisive strike in the second half.
The opening goal came in the 28th minute when Norway’s Ebba Niss unfortunately turned the ball into her own net, giving Ecuador a 1-0 lead. The own goal provided a much-needed breakthrough for the South American side, allowing them to settle into the match and defend their advantage through to the halftime whistle.
As the second half progressed, Ecuador sought to solidify their lead and finally found their second goal in the 74th minute. It was captain and defensive stalwart Maite Zambrano who stepped up, converting a normal goal to double the scoreline. Zambrano’s effort provided a comfortable cushion and proved to be the final nail in the coffin for the Norwegian side.
The 2-0 result is a momentous victory for Ecuador, earning them their first points of the tournament and boosting their chances of progressing from a challenging Group C. For Norway, the loss means they remain without a point and face a significant uphill battle in their remaining group stage match.
