North Korea Advances to U-17 Women’s World Cup Final, Eliminating Brazil

North Korea secured its spot in the final of the U-17 Women’s World Cup after defeating Brazil 2-0 in the semi-final. The match was played on Wednesday, November 5th, at the Príncipe Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, Morocco. North Korea’s victory was sealed by two goals from Yu Jong Hyang in the second half, with the result simultaneously eliminating the Brazilian team, which will now compete for third place on Saturday.

The match carried high expectations, particularly for the Brazilian squad, as it sought its first-ever final in this category. However, North Korea, a three-time champion of the tournament, proved to be clinically efficient, especially through its counterattacks.

Brazil initially pressed aggressively but was ultimately undone by crucial defensive errors. The turning point arrived in the 41st minute when the referee consulted VAR and subsequently awarded a penalty for a handball committed by Brazilian defender Andreyna, who was also shown a red card. Yu Jong Hyang converted the penalty with precision in the 43rd minute to give her side the lead. Just five minutes later, with Brazil adjusting to being down to ten players, the same player capitalized on a swift counterattack, doubling the lead with a powerful finish from outside the box.

In the first half, the game was balanced, though Brazil’s defense saw some heroic moments. Goalkeeper Ana Morganti shone brightest, making  back-to-back saves in the 37th minute to deny dangerous attacks from Jong Hyang and Ui Gyong. Brazil attempted to respond with shots from Kaylane in the fifth minute and Maria in the 32nd, but neither effort found the target. Compounding Brazil’s issues, an early injury to Gi Seppe forced the coaching staff to make formation adjustments, as it went on to finish 2-0.

Brazil will now focus on the third-place contest, where they will face the Mexico, which. That match is scheduled for Saturday.
