Brahim Diaz carries Qualifications form to AFCON finals with first MOTM trophy

Brahim Diaz proved to be the difference-maker in Morocco’s opening fixture against Comoros, leading the Atlas Lions to a commanding 2-0 victory and securing his first Man of the Match trophy of the tournament in the process

Transition from Qualifiers

The pacy Real Madrid star has  carried his form from the qualifying stages into the AFCON finals. After finishing the qualifiers with an impressive seven-goal haul, Díaz showed no signs of slowing down on the big stage.

Wearing the iconic number 10 shirt, he played with a level of creativity and urgency that Comoros simply couldn’t contain. His impact was felt early; in the 9th minute, his direct running forced a foul in the box to win Morocco a penalty, though Soufiane Rahimi was unable to convert from the spot.

The Real Madrid man nearly earned a second penalty in the 44th minute, but a marginal handball prior to contact kept the scoreline steady heading into the break.

The Decisive Moment

The deadlock was finally broken in the 55th minute. Fed by a precise delivery from Noussair Mazraoui, Díaz found the back of the net to give the Atlas Lions the lead they deserved.

After 76 minutes of tireless work, Díaz made way for Youssef En-Nesyri to a standing ovation. His performance solidified his status as the heartbeat of the Moroccan attack.

There is always a heavy burden on the player wearing the number 10 for  but for now, Brahim Díaz is more than living up to the expectations. If this opening performance is any indication, he will be the focal point of Morocco’s pursuit of continental glory.
