FAÈ WARY OF CAMEROON DESPITE SQUAD CHANGES

Côte d’Ivoire head coach Emerse Faé has warned his side against complacency ahead of Sunday’s encounter against Cameroon at the Grand Stade de Marrakech. Despite a significant overhaul of the Cameroonian roster, Faé insists the fixture remains one of the most difficult in African football.
The Indomitable Lions enter the match without several high-profile veterans, including André Onana, Vincent Aboubakar, and Zambo Anguissa. However, Faé believes the absence of established stars will not diminish the quality or intensity of David Pagou’s side.
Focus on the Fixture, Not the Names
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Faé dismissed suggestions that the Ivorian side holds a clear advantage due to Cameroon’s transition phase.
“Even if it were a vulnerable team on paper, this is a special match,” Faé stated. “The Cameroon team tomorrow will be very solid. It is impossible to think that in a Cameroon vs. Côte d’Ivoire match, Cameroon arrives with any sense of vulnerability.”
Strategic Stakes
The match carries significant weight for the Group F standings. Both nations currently sit at the top of the group with three points each, following narrow 1-0 victories in their opening matches. A win on Sunday would essentially secure a place in the Round of 16, allowing the victors to manage their squad rotation in the final group game.
For Côte d’Ivoire, the reigning champions, the objective remains clear: maintaining momentum as they seek to become the first team to successfully defend the AFCON title since Egypt’s historic run.
