FECAFOOT Rejects CAF Penalties Against Samuel Eto’o
In an official statement released this January 14, 2026, the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) announced its formal intent to appeal a disciplinary ruling issued by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) against its president, Samuel Eto’o.
This legal challenge follows a decision by the CAF Disciplinary Jury to impose a four-match suspension and a $20,000 fine on the federation’s leader for alleged misconduct during a recent match between Morocco and Cameroon.
The federation has voiced strong opposition to the sanctions, arguing that the ruling lacks explicit motivation and fails to provide a clear justification for the severity of the penalties.
FECAFOOT further expressed reservations regarding the “express procedure” utilized by CAF, claiming that the expedited process compromised the president’s right to a fair trial.
Throughout the statement, the Cameroon Football Federation maintained its unwavering support for its supremo and stressed the importance of upholding credible disciplinary justice within the sport.
Moving forward, Samuel Eto’o intends to exercise his full right to appeal within the legal timeframes established by the regulations.
This current suspension adds to a growing list of disciplinary hurdles for Eto’o, who was previously hit with a six-month ban by FIFA in late 2024. That sanction stemmed from an incident at the U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia, where he was judged to have breached disciplinary regulations involving offensive behavior and the harassment of match officials following Cameroon’s round-of-16 exit.
Additionally, while Eto’o was only cleared by CAF in 2023 of separate match-fixing allegations due to a lack of sufficient evidence, he still faced a substantial fine in that case for an ethics breach related to a controversial brand ambassador deal with the betting platform 1XBET.
