Singida Black Stars Secure Historic First CAF Confederation Cup Win

Singida Black Stars secured their first-ever victory in the CAF Confederation Cup with a 1–0 win over Congo’s AS Otoho d’Oyo. Playing at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar, the Tanzanian debutants used a disciplined, measured tempo to outlast their Group C rivals.

The match began as a tactical stalemate, with both sides hesitant to commit too many bodies forward. The deadlock nearly broke in the 20th minute when Ivorian forward Joseph Guede Gnadou rattled the woodwork with a powerful low strike. While Otoho’s Samy Mampembe missed a golden opportunity to respond immediately, Singida finally found the breakthrough in the 37th minute. Following a defensive lapse by the visitors, Kenyan striker Elvis Rupia stayed composed to slot the ball home from close range.

Singida maintained their aggression in the second half, with Gnadou forcing a sharp save from Otoho keeper Aboubacar Doumbia. While the Congolese side struggled to find a rhythm, they nearly leveled the scoring in the 74th minute via a spectacular overhead kick from substitute Japhet Mankou, which was expertly dealt with by Singida’s Metacha Mnata.

Group C Outlook

This victory catapults the 2016-founded club into second place in the group with four points. The two sides are scheduled for a quick rematch next week in Brazzaville, where Otoho will look to leapfrog Singida and reclaim their spot in the standings.
