Midfeilder Aurelien Tchouameni has been handed his first call up by World Cup holders France.

The startlet has been a hit in the earlier parts of this season and certainly caught the eye of Didier Deschamps, who in turn has called him up for World Cup qualifying games against Bosnia and Herzegovina; on September 1 in Strasbourg, Ukraine on September 4 in Kiev, and Finland on September 7 in Lyon.

It is only a routine for the 21 year old who has grown steadily from the U16, U17, U18, U19, U20 and U21.

Aurélien Tchouameni has played 7 games in all competitions so far this season, helping himself to a goal in the champions league prelims.

Understanding how Cameroon can still get Tchouameni Aurelien represent them;

Footballers can change international team thanks to the FIFA eligibility rules. Article 9 of FIFA’s Regulations Governing the Application of the Statutes deals with changing association.

It is now possible for a player to change national team even if they have played competitively at senior level.

Nationality continues to underpin the rules and remains the starting point of the entire concept of national team eligibility. As Article 5.1 states:

“Any person holding a permanent nationality that is not dependent on residence in a certain country is eligible to play for the representative teams of the association of that country.”
