CAF Confederation Cup: Cotonsport 2 GOOD, Two To The Good

Roaring favorites against Nouadhibou, Cotonsport of Garoua have sailed through to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup playoffs this afternoon, via a 2-0 victory over FC Nouadhibou.

The Cotonites go through to the group phase for a second successive time with a 2-0 aggregate scoreline, through a Marou Souaibou brace, after picking up parity (0-0) in Mauritania.

Cotonsport started with intent from the flanks.
Daman with a surging run into the area but his pass to the path of Tombi is checked by the Nouadhibou defense.

6 minutes after, there was some a seismic reaction at the Bepanda stadium, from the Cotonsport fans.

It was that combination of Daman to Tombi once more, but this time – Tombi went for power, and his shot was matched by a spectacular save from Salahddine.

Cotonsport’s left back Houzaifi made an overlap at the 16th minute, finding 16-year-old Marou whose attempted placement was parried once more by goalkeeper Salahddine, but the signals were there for Nouadhibou to care about.

The curtain raiser was finally attained by Cotonsport.

It took Tombi’s curled effort placed for Marou, and Cotonsport finally broke the deadlock at the 21st minute, just like that.

5 minutes after, defender Faouz Faidine was adjudged to have brought down Tombi in the area, after some dazzling work by the former UMS man.

The resulting penalty was taken and converted by in – form Marou Souaibou for 2-0 Cotonsport

After the half hour mark, coach Santiago Martinez made his first substitution, taken off a defender for a Center forward –
Mohamed Abdallahi Soudani.

Nouadhibou came back in the second half re – vitalized, and it was glaring with Abdallahi’s cross for Teguedi, whose effort lacked sting to beat goalkeeper Gdin Allambatnan.

The feisty nature of the game meant a couple of bookings for Cotonsport’s Jean Mourso and Kaiba Djawal.

As the game went on in the telling minutes, complacency got into the Cotonsport trio and they missed a couple of chances, though it counted for nothing.
