Gambia 1-0 Mauritania: Gambia Makes Triumphant Entry To The BIG Time

The Gambia defeated Mauritania (1-0), on Wednesday evening at the Limbe Ngeme stadium, as part of the first day (group F) of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Gambia’s Ablie Jallow scored the first goal in the history of the country’s football at the Africa Cup of Nations.

It all started wrongly for Mauritania who got off to a disappointing start before the game kicked off.

The Mauritanians waited in vain for their national anthem to be played. Instead, organisers launched the wrong anthem three times, leaving the Mauritanians pondering.

Indeed, it came in as some sort of bad omen. The Gambia showed a lot of character, like the real scorpions that they are, and Ablie Jallow made history at the 10th minute, scoring Gambia’s lone goal.

The attacking midfielder, who plays in Belgium, bamboozled Babacar Diop with a superb shot that drew the curtains and handed all three points to Gambia.
