AFCON 2021: Claude Le Roy Arrives Cameroon Today

It is only fitting that the one who won Cameroon’s second AFCON tournament, will arrive the country — hosting for a second time in 50 years, to see if the Indomitable Lions could win a 6th AFCON trophy.

It is for that reason that the former Indomitable Lions gaffer – Claude Le Roy is expected to land on Cameroonian ground, this Friday January 21, at the Nsimalen airport.

Le Roy arrives Cameroon at 7 pm local time, according to sportsglitz.net sources. He had two stints as Cameroon coach from 1985-1988, and in 1988.

A former player himself, Claude Le Roy good to the dugouts when his playing days ended.

His achievements in leading the Cameroon national team to be runners-up in the 1986 African Cup of Nations, and then champions in the 1988 competition, are often cited as his greatest managerial accomplishments.

He then took charge of Senegal when they reached the quarterfinals at the 1992 African Cup of Nations, and returned to Cameroon to lead them during the World Cup in 1998.

Now, Antonio Conceiçao is the current manager of the indomitable Lions and is set to be the 6th coach to win the trophy after; 1984 (Radivoje Ognjanović) Claude Le Roy (1988), 2000 (Pierre Lechantre), 2002 (Winfried Schäfer), 2017 ( Hugo Broos). Cameroon plays against Comoros Island on the Monday 24.
