Amir Abdou Steps Down As Comoros Head Coach
Amir Abdou has turned the page and is no longer coach of the Comoros Island!
Weeks after the African Cup of Nations, the coach of the Comoros has decided to leave his post.
The technician believes he wants to avoid a trap strict continuity. After leading the Cœlacanthes to their first AFCON with a qualification to the round of 16, Amir Abdou will no longer continue to lead this selection, for personal reasons. The confirmation was made by the Comoros football federation this Thursday, February 24.
In office since 2014, the technician has coached in 49 games with a record of 12 wins, 17 draws and 20 defeats. The historic qualification for the African Cup of Nations remains his greatest success.
The federation confirmed Abdou’s resignation in an official announcement. Amir explained that he wants to avoid falling into the trap of strict continuity.
“These eight years will remain etched in my memory forever. Eight years of hard work, eight years marked by doubts, joy, disappointments, fatigue, sometimes even annoyance, but in the end I will only remember the positive events. Occupying this position of coach has been a heavy mission, a most exciting challenge, and a great source of pride. I am very honored to have had the chance to represent my own nation, it is an indescribable feeling. From the first hour, I was driven by one and only thing: to make this team progress so that it exists on the continental or even international scene, it’s done.
I did not imagine at that time the recent events. Today, if I have decided to leave this post of coach after eight years, it is because it seems important to me not to fall into the trap of strict continuity.
Sometimes you have to push the lines and dare to change to write new chapters. It is not a question of “leaving the adventure” but as a builder, I have the feeling that the mission has been accomplished, whether with this sporting progress or this splendid course during the African Cup of Nations.” Amir ended. The 49-year-old technician wants a new challenge. Some have announced him at the helm of the Mauritania selection, a country in which he has also worked since November 2020, as coach of FC Nouadhibou.
