Togo Pip Gabon To First Ever AWCON

A week after beating Gabon (2-1) in the first leg in Lome, the women’s national football team of Togo returned on Wednesday to Libreville and had a carbon copy of the same score (2-1).

For these group of girls from Togo – led by Kaï Tomety, it will simply be the first participation in the continental competition.

This historic qualification was hailed by the sporting public, as well as the entire government.

“You did it, you qualified Togo! Congratulations to you and thank you for the sacrifice and this historic qualification obtained against winds and tides”, tweeted the Minister of Sports who, the day before, had sent a letter of support to the players.

Togo will perform its baptism of fire alongside 11 other continental selections, including South Africa, Cameroon and Nigeria, the usual foes of the competition and three-time defending champions.
