Eguavoen Resigns As Super Eagles Coach

Two days after Nigeria’s elimination by Ghana in the 2022 World Cup play-offs, Super Eagles coach Augustine Aguavoen has tendered his resignation.

Despite Djamel Belmadi being kept at the head of Algeria’s national team despite the elimination in the World Cup play-offs against Cameroon, same cannot be said in the case for Augustine Eguavoen of Nigeria, who preferred to resign after the elimination of the Super Eagles against Ghana in Abuja.

“Following the failure of the Nigerian Super Eagles to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, former technical adviser, Augustine Eguavoen, has resigned from his post with immediate effect. At the same time, the NFF withdrew the two-and-a-half-year contract offered to the coaches and terminated the appointment of the entire squad’s technical staff with immediate effect. A new team will be announced after proper consideration to take charge of the Super Eagles to face future challenges appropriately,’
the Federation said in its statement released on Thursday March 31.
