AFCON 2023 Q:Rigobert Song Leaves Out Jerome Onguene In 34-Man List
Eintracht Frankfurt bound Jerome Onguene has been overlooked in a 34-man squad put out by Rigobert Song as the Indomitable Lions get set for the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.
This, for the second time after Jerome Onguene flagged red in both games against Algeria in March, due to illness.
However, the 24-year-old is fully fit and ready to go, as he is fresh from winning the Austrian Bundesliga with Red Bull Salzburg.
The former French youth international has played 18 games this term with 2 goals in all competitions. Intertwined between the latter’s games were 5 top Champions League matches.
Looking at the Lions’ list, ‘second zone’ defenders who ply at a relatively lower level compared to Onguene, make the cut.
Onguene ended up bronze medalist in this year’s AFCON, playing 2 out of 7 games for the Indomitable Lions.
On the other hand, coach Rigobert Song could be in search of other options whilst keeping an eye on Jerome, prior to the World Cup later this year.
