CAF CL Prelims: Ambina Sees Red As Petro ‘Burn’ City In SA

Last season’s PSL runners-up, Cape Town City could be out of the CAF champions league contest as they lost to Petro de Luanda, via a 0-3 score line at the Cape Town City stadium on October 8.

For most parts of the game, it was crystal clear that continental newbies (Cape Town City), were taking on tourney regulars, Petro de Luanda.

Brazilian forward, Gleison Moreira broke the deadlock 8 minutes after the half hour mark, before Tiago Azulão beat
Darren Keet from the spot, two minutes after the break.

The boys of Erik Tinkler were not all that dismal, but, the game was decided by quickfire spells in each half.

Frustrations only piled in on the home side, and they totally crashed when Azulao got his brace and the game’s third at the 63rd minute.

The cards then started flying out and eventually, Fidel Brice Ambina got a second yellow for allegedly retaliating after a foul adjudged to be bad at he 81st minute. Cape Town City haven’t had the best start to their campaign even in the league, as they’re ranked 12th.

Three down against Petro in Angola with the absence of Ambina, is surely going to be a tough, and somewhat impossible task for the citizens.

As for last year’s CAF champions league semifinalists Petro, it was job done against a South African opposition after their 3-2 aggregate win in the quarter-finals of the CAF CL last season. The reversed fixture is penciled for October 14.
