Qatar 2022: Ghana Closes Prep With ‘Statement Win’ Over Switzerland

Whopping boys? Definite no. Other teams in group H should be looking over their shoulders after Ghana’s win against Switzerland.

Ghana beat sparring partners Switzerland 2-0  on Thursday in Abu Dhabi, in what was their last friendly game prior to the World Cup.

It is a big confidence booster for the 2010 World Cup quarter-finalists ahead of their 4th World Cup finals that starts in under seven days.

The game was won and lost from the 70th minute mark thanks to debut goals from  Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu (10 minutes after the hour  mark), and Bristol City forward Antoine Semenyo, four minutes after Salisu’s opener.

It  is a second consecutive win without conceding for the Black Stars, who had defeated Nicaragua 1-0 in September.

Ghana will kick-start its World Cup next Thursday against Portugal (5 p.m.) in Group H, while Switzerland will launch hostilities the same day against Cameroon at 11 a.m.

Black Stars Starting XL:  Ati-Zigi – Lamptey, Amartey, Salisu, Baba – Owusu, Abdul Samed – Afriyie, J.Ayew, A.Ayew – I.Williams.

Switzerland starting XL: Sommer – Widmer, Akanji, Schar, Comert – Xhaka, Zakaria – Freuler, Shaqiri, Vargas – Embolo
