Qatar 2022: Saka At Brace As Three Lions Run-over Iran

England introduced themselves to the 2022 World Cup with a big win over Iran.

Jude Bellingham opened the scoring with a header from a perfectly weighted cross by Luke Shaw for 1-0 at the 35th minute.

9 minutes later, from another set play, Saka scored with a volley from Maguire’s cross.

It was party time and a minute into added time in the first half, Kane served Sterling superbly on a counterattack for the third. The Chelsea striker struck with the outside of his foot and made it 3-0.

The start of the second half had less rhythm. Many Iranian fouls broke the game but the English maintained their dominance, and they were rarely worried by their opponents.

It took until the 62nd minute for the Three Lions to continue the scoring spree when Saka hit his second to complete his brace. Mehdi Taremi then saved some pride for his team with a nice shot underneath the bar for 4-1 at the 65th minute.

Eleven minutes after the hour mark, Marcus Rashford managed a goal of his own with his first touch of the ball, after a good pass from Kane to make it 5-1.

In the 90th minute, Wilson went behind the Iranian defense and was very unselfish by serving Grealish, who placed into an empty to increase the score to 6-1. At the very last minute of borrowed time (90+10) Stones was guilty of a shirt pulling in the area, allowing Iran to lighten up the scoreline to 6-2.

England are top of group B as USA and Wales shared the spoils (1-1) later in the night.
