Qatar 2022: Uruguay Share Spoils With South Korea

In the first group H game of the World Cup on Thursday November 24, Luis Suarez’ Uruguay and South Korea of Son Heung-min separated on a zero-all tie.

This 22nd edition of the World Cup has thus far seen fourth zero-all ties with Korea – Uruguay being the latest after; Denmark-Tunisia, Mexico-Poland and Morocco-Croatia. Uruguay prolly deserved better with the brand of football played, but there was no end product.

Uruguay twice struck the upright of South Korean goalkeeper Kim Seunggyu. First was Diego Godin with a header on back of a corner well taken by Federico Valverde at the 43rd minute.

Then Valverde, often a scorer with Real Madrid (eight goals in twenty games) this season, struck hard and nearly bamboozled Kim Seunggyu at the 89th minute.

South Korea had their moments.
They were the first to launch a dangerous attack with a chance from Hwang Uijo, four minutes after the half hour mark. The former Bordeaux player sent his side footed attempt over the bar after a superb cross from Kim Moon-hwan, Korea’s best chance all afternoon.

On match day 2 on Monday, South Korea pits Ghana and Uruguay plays against Portugal.
