Onana Amongst 25 Nominees For Goalkeeper Of The Year

Former Indomitable Lions doorman, Andre Onana, 26, is on the list of nominees for the title of best goalkeeper of the year to be awarded by the IFFHS (International Federation of Football History & Statistics).

The Inter man, who formalised his decision a few days ago to retire from International football after being rusticated from Cameroon’s squad at the Qatar 2022 World Cup, makes IFFHS list of 25 nominees in the category of best keeper award, alongside; Senegal’s Édouard Mendy, and Morocco’s Yassine Bounou.

Onana has been on the radar of this coveted award 3 times prior to this 2022 nomination. He made the cut in 2017, 2019 and 2021.

In 2021, the title for best goalkeeper awarded by IFFHS went to Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Onana has played 21 competitive games this year for club and country, leading Cameroon to a bronze medal in the 2021 AFCON on home soil. The former Ajax shot-stopper equally fended off Handanovic to become Inter’s first choice goalie.
